Original Deco Art

American Art Deco Watercolor by Jerry Roth of a Couple Dancing

Jerry Roth (1918 - 2008) joined the WPA at 16 years of age in 1934 to support his family and work on his artistic skills. Assigned to the WPA poster project, which was a service project for other WPA projects, he might be designing posters for the Public Health Department , the United States Tourist Bureau or Orson Wells' Mercury Theatre. When there was no poster work he was free to paint. He painted what he saw in New York City. This watercolor shows a man and woman dancing next to a table with a bottle on top. The watercolor is 11" x 17" and is signed in pencil on the lower right "Rothstein".
