Edgar Brandt

French  [1880 - 1960] 

The Frenchman, Edgar Brandt, is recognized as the master craftsman and designer in wrought iron from the Art Deco era. He opened his studio in 1919 and by the 1925 Exposition he had his own section as well as the grills for the Porte d'Honneur; doors, gates and furniture for the Ruhlmann Pavillion. For the Salon d'un Ambassadeur he displayed his famous "Oasis" screen.

Tall American Art Deco Three Panel Geometric Folding Screen

The three hand painted on canvas American art deco in this folding screen came from a 1920’s movie theatre. The previous owner had them professionally mounted to form the hinged screen. The panels are reminiscent of Edgar Brandt’s famous “Oasis” screen created for the 1925 Paris Exposition. The screen is 86 ½” (7 feet, 2 inches) high and 90” wide (7 feet, 6 inches) wide. The painted canvas and wood surround are in excellent condition.

Edgar Brandt Table Lamp

This French art deco table lamp was designed by Edgar Brandt (1880 – 1960) in the 1920’s. The base and shaft are of wrought iron with bronze centers on the flowers on the base. The "Brandt" stamp on the base. The bronze collar holds an egg shaped alabaster shade. The lamp is 13 ½” high and is rewired for American electricity.

French Art Deco Wrought Iron Pen Tray Style of Edgar Brandt

This French art deco pen tray is from the 1930’s. The tray is of hand wrought iron and is well and solidly made. Each end has a rectangular handle surmounted with leaves and berries, in the style of the work of Edgar Brandt....although the tray is not signed. The tray is an elongated octagon with raised edges and sits on four ball feet. The tray is signed but the signature is unreadable. The tray is 14 ½” long and 3 ¾” wide.

Edgar Brandt French Art Deco Paperweight

This French art deco steel presse-papiers (paperweight) was designed by Edgar Brandt (1880-1960). The paperweight is named "Obus" and was a publicity item offered by the Brandt firm. Measures 4 3/4" x 2" x 2".}
