This iconic mid century modern hi-back lounge chair was designed by George NakashimaGeorge Nakashima
USA [1905 - 1990] 

George Nakashima was born in Spokane, Washington in 1905. A sculptor, architect and woodworker he graduated from M.I.T. with a master's in Architecture in 1930. Nakashima wrote a book describing his experiences and relationship with wood, The Soul of a Tree (1981). In 1983, he designed the impressive “Altar of Peace” installed in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He designed the ORIGINS line for the Widdicomb Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan and supervised the production of the line. Each piece was marked with his name and dated.

(1905-1990) ca 1955 for his Origins line, produced by the Widdicomb Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The chair, with solid walnut construction, is known for its comfort and the “ears” at the top of its back. The chair, Number 257 in the company literature, has been recently reupholstered. It is 32” wide, 38” deep and 41 high.
