George Nakashima was born in Spokane, Washington in 1905. A sculptor, architect and woodworker he graduated from M.I.T. with a master's in Architecture in 1930. Nakashima wrote a book describing his experiences and relationship with wood, The Soul of a Tree (1981). In 1983, he designed the impressive “Altar of Peace” installed in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He designed the ORIGINS line for the Widdicomb Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan and supervised the production of the line. Each piece was marked with his name and dated.

(1905 -1990) for his Origins Line, produced by Widdicomb Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The mirror frame with top and bottom elements that extend horizontally beyond the frame, is constructed of solid walnut. The mirror number 270 in the company literature is 55" wide, 5" deep and 43 ½" high. It is in excellent condition.
