George Nakashima was born in Spokane, Washington in 1905. A sculptor, architect and woodworker he graduated from M.I.T. with a master's in Architecture in 1930. Nakashima wrote a book describing his experiences and relationship with wood, The Soul of a Tree (1981). In 1983, he designed the impressive “Altar of Peace” installed in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He designed the ORIGINS line for the Widdicomb Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan and supervised the production of the line. Each piece was marked with his name and dated.

(1905 -1990) designed this mid century modern design side table for his Origins line, produced by the Widdicomb Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The table in solid walnut, is finished on all sides, so it can be placed anywhere in the room. The curved top sits In a gently curved back with a single tapered foot with a stretcher, which is pegged in the rear. The table has its original paper Widdicomb label and is stenciled on the underside of top “oil wal” (the finish oiled walnut) “282” (the model number) and “8/60” (the date it was made) It is 20” wide, 27” deep and 21” high.
