The chairs known as the 2700 Bentwood Chair remained in the line for 22 years, a testimony to its comfort and eye appeal. The table is 54” long x 36” wide x 30” high and extends by 27” with the three leaves inserted (two leaves are 10” wide each and one is 7” wide and they can be used individually). Each chair is 32” high x 17” wide and 20” deep. Seat height is 18 ½”.

The cabinet is constructed of American ash and mahogany veneers with brushed chrome pulls. It has has two drawers on the left, a drop down door in the center and a swing out door on the right. A glass shelf on wood planks secured by three brushed chrome knobs sits atop the right hand section. One drawer contains Rohde’s 1933 World's Fair tag. The piece is from Rohde’s 3319 group and is 50" wide, 15 ½" deep and 23" high.

Click to Read More (1894-1944) designed this rare and at the time avant garde American Art Deco coffee table in 1939. A September 1939 article in Furniture Age states “A new line of tables made of glass with…bases of a new plastic known as “plexiglas” which is 60 percent lighter than glass and does not show scratches”. The article also says “designed by Gilbert Rohde for the Valley Upholstering Co. , New York”. Some time that summer The Herman Miller Furniture Company, who produced many of Rohde’s furniture designs acquired the rights, as a July 1939 promotional piece states “made by the Herman Miller Furniture Company”. The World War II need for brass and Lucite ensured a very limited production run. The table is in excellent vintage condition and is 34” in diameter and is 17 1/8” high.

Click to Read More designed this American art deco console dining table in 1934 for the Herman Miller Furniture Company. It is number 3435 from his East Indian Laurel group, (named for the rare south Asian veneers used in construction). The console is linked at the base with three chrome steel bars and has a top that slides and flips to make small dining table. It is 28” high 56” long and 16” deep (32” when the top is flipped ). The wood has been refinished, the chrome replated and all is in excellent condition.

Click to Read More(1894 – 1944) designed this sculptural and advanced form dining table for the Herman Miller Furniture Company, Zeeland, Michigan. The table is from the Paldao Group introduced in the Fall of 1940. The table top is of Paldao veneers (Paldao is a Philippine hard wood) with an inlaid “sine” curve of lighter wood. The table top opens in the center to introduce two matching leaves. The top is finished in a natural color Rohde named “Beaver”. Faceted legs in a darker stain slant inward from each corner to a base of “Leather Cloth” (specified by Rohde to be “Ashers Boretz # 302 – Brown) held in place by 5/16” antique brass tacks. The rounded corners and gently undulating sides and ends on the top and base mark the first introduction of biomorphic design in American furniture. The table is 40” wide, 68” long (96” long when the two 14” leaves are inserted) and 29 ¾” high. The table is completely restored and in showroom condition.

The tall dresser has 3 drawers topped with a fold – down desk. The set is constructed of mahogany veneers and has brass handles and fittings.

The table top is veneered in quarter book matched acacia burl (also called myrtle burl). The edges are veneered in Paldao wood from the Philippines. Rohde specified that the leather cloth legs should be “covered with Ashers Boretz # 302 brown - tacked with 5/16” antique brass tacks – heads close together”. The table is 36” in diameter, 15” high and is in exceptional original condition.

Click to Read More (1886 – 1958) for the Troy Sunshade Company in the 1930’s. The back adjusts to four positions by pressing down on a flat band chrome bar. The tubular chrome frame supports an ivory vinyl seat cushion with black piping. The three lobed back cushions, also in ivory vinyl with black piping, attach to the frame across the top tubular chrome bar. The frame swoops around from under the seat to form the arms which are also covered in ivory vinyl with black trim. The chair, which measures 25 ½” wide x 39” deep and 33” high (46” deep, 28” high when reclined), is in very good original condition and ready to add style and comfort to any room.

Click to Read More ca 1933 for the mutual sunset lamp company. It is shown in a Herman Miller brochure ca 1934 “20th Century Modern Furniture Designed by Gilbert Rohde”. The lamp is shown four times in the brochure. It is also shown in the 1935 studio year book. The lamp has a round weighted chrome foot and a brass shaft. A chrome upper portion with a curved top is extendable to raise the lamp from 57” to 84”. A small ring collar with a knob allows the ascent or descent to be arrested by friction. The head of the lamp with its counter-balance ball rotates up to become a torchiere or down for a reading light, it also swivels left or right. The base is 11” in diameter, the shade is 9” in diameter.

Click to Read More (1894-1944) designed this American art deco table lamp for the Mutual Sunset Lamp Company, Brooklyn, New York in the 1930’s. The square base has three sections divided by an indented line. On each side of the center brass shaft clear one inch diameter glass tubes catch the light from the original milk glass diffuser. All the metal parts are made of polished brass. The lamp is marked on the bottom “MSLC” (Mutual Sunset Lamp Company) and “4060” (the model number). We recently had a pair of the same design in brushed nickel with the number “4600”...The difference being the type of metal. The lamp is 23 ½” tall and is in excellent condition. The shade is not original to the lamp.

The base is horizontally divided in three parts...the 1930’s speed motif. On each side of the central shaft clear one inch diameter solid clear glass tubes catch the light from the original milk glass diffuser. The beige linen type shades are new and the lamps have been rewired. The lamps are 23 ½ “ tall and are in excellent original condition. Click to Read More clock with thermometer and humidity gauge is an unusual pre production example of Herman Miller’s Model 6381 first listed in their 1937 Catalog. In contrast to the production model, it is identified as Herman Miller on the clock face rather than on a metal tag on the bottom. The lacquered wood feet considerably smaller in diameter than in the production model. The clock has the brushed steel face, macassar ebony case and three “speed” bars as found on the regular production model. The clock is 5 ¾” high, 10” wide and 2 ¼” deep.

Gilbert Rhode (1886 - 1958) designed this American art deco clock for the Herman Miller Company in the mid 1930s. The clock features a stepped chrome base, chrome frame and skyscraper hands. The clock is 6 and 1/2" tall, is in working condition and keeps excellent time.
