Henry Faulkner Oil Painting

This oil on masonite painting is by Henry Lawrence Faulkner (1924- 1981). It is titled on the back "Wildflowers". Henry loved to paint flowers. They gave him free rein to shower his paintings with color. Vincent Price, a noted art critic as well as famous actor, called Henry "America’s Foremost Colorist". The painting is signed on the lower right "Faulkner". Faulkner’s works are in the collections of the Corcoran and Philips Museums in Washington, DC, and were also in the private collections of Tennessee Williams, Berthold Brecht, C.V. Whitney, Nathan Cummings and Vincent Price, among others. The painting is in the original "old" frame used by Faulkner. The board measures 11 1/2" x 8" and the painting is 15 1/2" x 12 1/8"overall. Provenance: the collection of Ric Emmett. References: The Outrageous Life of Henry Faulkner: Portrait of an Appalachian Artist, Charles House, 1988. Originally published by the University of Tennessee Press in 1988. A paperback edition was published in 2005.
