This American mid-century modern design night stand or side table was designed in 1958 by George NakashimaGeorge Nakashima

George Nakashima was born in Spokane, Washington in 1905. A sculptor, architect and woodworker he graduated from M.I.T. with a master's in Architecture in 1930. Nakashima wrote a book describing his experiences and relationship with wood, The Soul of a Tree (1981). In 1983, he designed the impressive “Altar of Peace” installed in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He designed the ORIGINS line for the Widdicomb Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan and supervised the production of the line. Each piece was marked with his name and dated.

(1905 -1990) for his Origins Line, produced by the Widdicomb Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The night stand or side table is in east Indian laurel veneers and has solid walnut legs. It is in his Oil Walnut finish. It is stenciled on the bottom of the drawer "Oil Walnut" "5/60" (the date manufactured) and "215" (the company model number) and branded "George Nakashima". A cloth label "Widdicomb Grand Rapids" is inside the drawer. It is 22 ½" wide , 21" deep and 21" high. The drawer pull is brass. In excellent original condition.
