Fine and Decorative Arts Appraisals, Personal Property Appraisals
We are available to work anywhere in the United States to provide accurate, ethical and timely appraisal documents in the form appropriate for government, insurance and corporate needs. All appraisals are written to the Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the standards of the International Society of Appraisers and in accordance with the International Society of Appraisers’ Code of Ethics.
THE APPRAISER
Ric Emmett has the happy combination of 30 years’ of buying and selling 20th Century fine and decorative art and 29 years’ experience as a trained, accredited Appraiser of Personal Property for Insurance, Estate & Probate, Charitable Donations, Equitable Property Dissolution, re-sale and liquidation purposes.
Emmett has been a gallery owner since 1978 and an appraiser of personal property, fine arts and antiques since 1979. He has been the owner of Modernism Gallery in Coral Gables since 1986.
Educated at the University of Florida and the University of Richmond, Emmett has been an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) since 1992. In 1997 he completed the ISA course in Fine Art, in 2004 he completed the ISA Specialty Course in Antiques and Residential Contents.
He has twice served as President of the South Florida Chapter of ISA and in 2004-2005 was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Appraisers and has lectured nationally on art and antiques, been a contributing author of two books on antiques, published numerous articles on art and antiques, curated a museum show and was lead appraiser on WSVN-TV Channel 7’s “Trash or Treasure” series in Miami, Florida.
THE APPRAISAL PROCESS
The Examination: On-site, we carefully examine all property including:
- Identification
- Photography
- Measurement
- Description
- Condition
- Evaluation
The Research: Value conclusions for appraisals are based on comparable sales analysis for each item including:
- Identification of Marks & Labels
- Identification of Artists/Creators
- Verification of Dates
- Location of Comparable Items
- Investigation of Markets
- Consultation with other Experts if necessary
The Report: The client is provided with two copies (or more, as requested – specialty bindings can be arranged) of the completed appraisal, including:
- Cover document detailing process, definitions, market, and total valuation
- Appraiser’s Qualifications to perform the appraisal
- One item per sheet with identification, description, photograph and value
THE APPRAISAL FEES
Appraisal fees are based on an hourly rate and include factors such as on-site time, research time, documentation and report writing time and travel.
