Rockwell Kent for Chase American Art Deco Box
Rockwell Kent designed this nickel plated brass American art deco box for the Chase Brass and Copper Company in 1935. It was only offered in 1935 and 1936. As on the wine stand and wine cooler, the Greek god of wine – Bacchus carries a bunch of grapes accompanied by leaping deer. Kent added his initials “RK” on the lower right. The box measures 6 ½” x 6 ¼” and is 1 ½” high.
American Art Deco Wine Cooler by Lurelle Guild and Rockwell Kent for Chase
Lurelle Guild (1898 - 1986) designed this American art deco wine cooler in 1934 for the Chase Brass & Copper Company. Constructed of chrome plated copper, the cooler has a relief placque designed by Rockwell Kent (1882 – 1971) depicting the child Bacchus (the Greek god of wine) carrying bunches of grapes and flanked by two gazelles. The cooler measures 9 1/2" tall and is 8" in diameter. On each side, a ring handle for carrying. The cooler was only in the 1935, 1936 and 1937 catalogs.
