Surrealistic Etching by Kurt Seligmann “The Slaying of Laius”

This surrealist etching is by Kurt Seligmann (1900 - 1962). Seligmann was anointed a surrealist by Andre Breton in 1937, escaped Nazi France in 1939 and settled in America. This work "The Slaying of Laius", is from edition of 50 examples illustrating the myth of Oedipus it was published in 1944 and has been described as "Surely his masterpiece, and one of the greatest works of surrealistic printmaking". The plate is 17 ¾" by 11 ¾" and is framed in an ebonized wood frame 28" x 22". The print is in excellent condition. It is number 104 in "Kurt Seligmann, his Graphic Work".
